Dua Before Eating

Food is one of the greatest blessings of Allah ﷻ. Every morsel we eat not only gives energy to the body but also makes us strong for the worship of Allah. In Islam even small daily life activities, like eating food, become worship through the Sunnah. One of these practices is Dua Before Eating, which is a means of protection and protection of food.

بِسْمِ اللّٰہِ وَعَلٰی بَرَكَةِ اللّٰہِ


📖 English Translation

“In the name of Allah.”


📚 Urdu Translation

اللہ کے نام سے (کھانا شروع کرتا ہوں)۔


🌟 Importance of Reciting Dua Before Eating

When a person starts his meal by taking Allah’s name, there is barakah in his meal. This is not just a simple word, but it protects us from the evil spirit and makes eating an act of worship. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) taught us that we must say Bismillah before every meal, so that we always remember that this sustenance is only Allah’s blessing.

If a person forgets in the beginning, then when he remembers in the middle, he can say:

Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu

(“In the name of Allah, at the beginning and at the end”).


🕰️ When Should This Dua Be Read?

  • Before every meal, whether big or small.
  • Whenever you have had water, juice, milk or any other beverage.
  • Also before eating snacks or fruits.
  • If you forget in the beginning, put it in the middle as soon as you remember.

Benefits of Reciting Dua Before Eating

  • There is peace and health in eating.
  • It prevents the devil from sharing the meal.
  • It generates gratitude and thanks in the heart.
  • One gets the reward of good deeds after listening to Sunnat.
  • Children and family get training in good Islamic manners.
